Playing Safe

Playing Safe is an independent organisation, comprised of academics and industry experts, which researches, recommends and evaluates responsible gambling projects and programmes in the casino sector.

Its accreditation panel (ACE) inspects the casinos of all the major operators to ensure they are adhering to the core Playing Safe principles and that a commitment to responsible gambling is at the heart of their business; inspections are carried out on a rolling basis and more than 80% of operators have been assessed.

The Playing Safe team evaluated the casino sector’s self-exclusion scheme SENSE and is planning to conduct further research into the programme. It also plans to engage more directly with customers, extending its research through focus groups to ensure the voice of the customer is heard.

The objective is to ensure that, as well as complying with their statutory responsibilities, casino operators focus on preventative strategies, intervening before customers exhibit signs of problem behaviour.

Playing Safe was launched in 2013. An annual report is published outlining its work and its plans for new research projects.
